My name is Marti Sievek. I am honored to serve as the Principal of Central High School. I began my career in Education as a Spanish teacher but have also served as a professor at MSU, Mankato and a MAPS district administrator in various roles and, most recently, as assistant principal of East High School. I am deeply committed to the Mankato area and the success of our students, our families, and our community. As a parent of two MAPS students, this is home and we work together to prepare our future workforce.

Professionally, I strive to create equitable, instructionally impactful learning opportunities for all. I am passionate about building engaging and interactive experiences with our dedicated staff so students get what they need to prepare them for the life options they want. At Central specifically, my vision is that these opportunities are truly alternative - where students co-create their educational experiences to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and learning to earn credit in non-traditional ways. I believe in real-world experiences, on the job credentialing, the globalization of education, and the interconnectedness of student learning opportunities with the greater community and world through online and face to face partnership.

Personally, you will find me outdoors hiking, running, paddleboarding, kayaking, and rollerblading with my family and dogs, reading, and playing music.

The Mankato Area Learning Center is the Alternative Learning Program for Mankato and the surrounding area. We offer students a choice in their education. Alternative learning programs incorporate innovative strategies to achieve results for students to thrive outside of the traditional education environment. The many benefits of alternative education include:

  • Engaged faculty

  • Low student to teacher ratio

  • Focus on respect and trust between student and teacher

  • Positive Behavioral Supports

  • Chemical health counseling

  • Teenage pregnancy and parenting classes

  • A Continual Learning Plan for each student

Students interested in attending Central High School or Central Freedom School need to meet with their school guidance counselor to explore this option.  Once a student has made a decision to attend the Mankato Area Learning Center, the home school guidance counselor will make a referral and an intake meeting will be scheduled.
